China: Sichuan Earthquake 2008 - Disaster relief

Developing Local Communities

SICPA brings support to the local communities after disastrous earthquake.

The Sichuan earthquake in 2008 was one of the most severe not only in term of economic impact but also on the number of people affected and killed.
More than 5 million houses were damaged and many people were left homeless. Not long after the event, SICPA employees in China spontaneously began collecting funds to support the victims.

SICPA Group decided to back up this move by participating to the Swiss Community Project, initiated, among others, by the Swiss Chamber of Commerce Shanghai. This project’s aim was the reconstruction of a school in one of the region most severely affected by the earthquake, so that the children could return to a permanent school as soon as possible. A school for over 300 students was rebuilt by the end of 2009.
