Mozambique, Idai cyclone
In March and April 2019, Mozambique was hit by two successive tropical cyclones severely affecting the central and northern parts of the country. Losses and damage in these regions were enormous, with at least 1,000 deaths, over 111,000 houses destroyed and 240,000 damaged.
After Cyclone Idai, SICPA teams quickly located our employees and their families, and set up a crisis unit to provide emergency support. Most of our employees had their homes damaged and lost most of their belongings. The safety and security of all those affected remained our priority. To this end, SICPA provided our employees and their families with food baskets and meals, water filtration kits and mosquito nets, as well as construction materials for their homes.
